Why You Need To Understand Your Security System Design

You can't just have a security system installed, or install it yourself, with little understanding of how it's designed. You should know the ins and outs of your security system, you should read the manual fully, and you should ask plenty of questions about the security system design from the person installing it so that you know how it works and so that you can avoid any potential problems.

What Problems Could Occur?

When you don't understand the security system design, there are several problems that can occur. First of all, if you don't understand how it works, you stand the chance of setting off false alarms. Now, if the system only emits a high decibel sound, the only problem this poses is annoyance; both yours and your neighbors. However, if the security system is designed to alert both the alarm company as well as the local police department, and an officer is called out to your home, you could face a ticket and/or a fine. Typically, you're allowed one or two false alarms before a fine is issued but these fines are not cheap. Think about it; you're taking the police away from their duties to tend to your false alarm. This is one potential problem that you face by not understanding the security system design so make sure you understand fully before setting the alarm.

The Components

You should also understand all of the components that make up the security system design. This includes the cameras, if any, motion sensors, the code box, where all of the sensors are located, and anything else that makes up your specific security system design. The cameras are important because you should know if they are being recorded, where they face, whether or not they are continually recording or if they're motion triggered, etc. The motion sensors are important, too. Are they sensitive enough to catch your cat walking across the living room floor? Where are they located? The sensors; are they on every door and window? Will they recognize an open window versus a broken window, etc.? These are all questions you should ask regarding the security system design so that you understand how it works and how well your home is protected.

A security system is a great thing to have. It gives you peace of mind, it makes you and your family feel safe, it deters burglaries and potential property destruction but if you don't understand the security system design, you leave yourself open to all sorts of problems and you might not be as protected as you think you are.
